Our common destiny

China is faced with some enormous challenges as it enters the 21st century. In order to ensure the prosperity of our nation and its future generations we must confront and ultimately solve these challenges.
Some of the more pressing issues facing China are universal. These include environmental degradation, over population and the effects of globalization.
To overcome some of the things we need to implement include:
Enhancing our scientific and industrial technologies in such areas as IT, Bio- tech, AI and Cybernetics.
Further develop public infrastructure in under developed regions.
Promote education reform at all levels.
Introduce sustainable development initiatives.
The implementation of free trade agreement between China and ASEAN.
The benefit to China in introducing these initiatives will be significant and far-reaching. It is important to realize that these initiatives need to filter down through all elements of the society in China. For instance, cutting edge technologies and intellectual properties; the development of e-commerce based economy; an education system that encourages innovation and creativity; increased foreign investment; higher living standards; more efficient use of natural resources.
It is important for us to realize these reforms are both essential and necessary. These will help China to fulfill its vast and unrealized potential on the world stage. It will also contribute more to a globalized world of the new century.
As for the future our task is not to foresee but to enable.

“我們并不是靠回憶過(guò)去而變得睿智，我們之所以明智是由于我們有對(duì)未來(lái)的責(zé)任感”。
中國(guó)在邁向二十一世紀(jì)的同時(shí)，也面臨著一些巨大的挑戰(zhàn)，為了確保我國(guó)的繁榮及為子孫后代著想，我們必須面對(duì)挑戰(zhàn)并最終從根本上解決它們。
一些中國(guó)即將面臨的挑戰(zhàn)迫切的問(wèn)題是全球普遍存在的。這些問(wèn)題包括環(huán)境惡化，人口過(guò)剩及全球化的影響。為了解決這些問(wèn)題，我們需要實(shí)施以下措施：
(1)提高并增強(qiáng)我們的科學(xué)及產(chǎn)業(yè)技術(shù)，如在信息技術(shù)產(chǎn)業(yè)，生物技術(shù)領(lǐng)域，人工智能以及神經(jīng)機(jī)械學(xué)領(lǐng)域;
(2)加快推動(dòng)欠發(fā)達(dá)地區(qū)的公共設(shè)施建設(shè);
(3)促進(jìn)不同層次的教育改革;
(4)使可持續(xù)發(fā)展的觀念深入人心;
(5)推行中國(guó)與東南亞聯(lián)盟的自由貿(mào)易協(xié)定。
中國(guó)將受益于積極主動(dòng)的采取具有重要深遠(yuǎn)意義的措施。認(rèn)識(shí)到這些措施需要實(shí)施到中國(guó)社會(huì)的各個(gè)層面是重要的，從而帶來(lái)廣泛且深遠(yuǎn)的各種改善，如：邊緣科技及知識(shí)產(chǎn)權(quán);發(fā)展以電子商務(wù)為基礎(chǔ)的經(jīng)濟(jì); 一種鼓勵(lì)發(fā)明與創(chuàng)造的教育體制;更多的外國(guó)投資; 更高的生活水平;更加有效的利用自然資源。
我們要意識(shí)到各項(xiàng)改革措施是根本的也是有必要的。這些將會(huì)促進(jìn)中國(guó)在世界舞臺(tái)上實(shí)現(xiàn)其巨大且尚未實(shí)現(xiàn)的潛力。
這也將會(huì)對(duì)全球化的新世紀(jì)做出貢獻(xiàn)。
至于未來(lái)，我們的任務(wù)不是去預(yù)知未來(lái)，而是努力去使其成為現(xiàn)實(shí)。

I believe in our future
Honorable Judges, fellow students:
Good afternoon!
Recently, ther is a heated debate in our society. The college students are the beneficiaries of a rare privilege, who receive exceptional education at extraordinary places. But will we be able to face the challenge and support ourselves against all odds? Will we be able to better the lives of others? Will we be able to accept the responsibility of building the future of our country?
The cynics say the college students are the pampered lost generation, which would cringe at the slightest discomfort. But the cynics are wrong. The college students I see are eagerly learning about how to live independently. We help each other clean the dormitory, go shopping and bargain together, and take part time jobs to supplement our pocket money.
The cynics say we care for nothing other than grades; and we neglect the need for character cultivation. But again, the cynics are wrong. We care deeply for each other, we cherish freedom, we treasure justice, and we seek truth. Last week, thousands of my fellow students had their blood type tested in order to make a contribution for the children who suffer from blood cancer.
As college students, we are adolescents at the critical turning point in our lives. We all face a fundamental choice: cynicism or faith, each will profoundly impact our future, or even the future of our country. I believe in all my fellow classmates. Though we are still inexperienced and even a little bit childish. I believe that we have the courage and faith to meet any challenge and take on our responsibilities. We are preparing to assume new responsibilities and tasks, and to use the education we have received to make our world a better place. I believe in our future.

尊敬的評(píng)委，各位同學(xué)：
下午好!
最近，社會(huì)上有一場(chǎng)很激烈的爭(zhēng)論。大學(xué)生是一種稀有特權(quán)的享有者，在很棒的地方接受高等教育。但是，我們能面對(duì)挑戰(zhàn)而無(wú)所畏懼嗎?我們能夠改善他人的生活嗎?我們能夠承擔(dān)建設(shè)祖國(guó)未來(lái)的重任嗎?
懷疑論者說(shuō)大學(xué)生是被寵壞的一代，一丁點(diǎn)挫折都受不了。但是他們錯(cuò)了，我所看到的大學(xué)生正在努力的學(xué)習(xí)獨(dú)立生活。我們互相幫助打掃衛(wèi)生，一起上街砍價(jià)購(gòu)物，一起參加兼職工作來(lái)賺零花錢(qián)。
懷疑論者說(shuō)我們除了成績(jī)什么都不關(guān)心，從而忽略了性格的'培養(yǎng)。但是，他們又錯(cuò)了。我們彼此關(guān)心，我們向往自由，我們珍惜公正，我們追求真理。上個(gè)星期，很多我的同學(xué)去驗(yàn)血，為了給患血癌的孩子貢獻(xiàn)自己的力量。
作為大學(xué)生，我們是處在人生分水嶺的青年。我們都面臨一個(gè)重要的選擇：懷疑人生還是相信自己，每一種都會(huì)給我們的人生帶來(lái)重大的影響，甚至影響我們祖國(guó)的未來(lái)。我相信我們的同學(xué)們，雖然我們依然缺乏經(jīng)驗(yàn)，甚至有些志氣，但是我相信我們有勇氣和自信來(lái)面對(duì)生活的挑戰(zhàn)并承擔(dān)我們的責(zé)任。我們正努力準(zhǔn)備接受新的任務(wù)，用我們所學(xué)習(xí)的知識(shí)將世界變得更美好。我對(duì)我們的未來(lái)充滿(mǎn)信心。
