In capacity as Professor of Mathematics at Fudan University。I'm writing to recommend Mr. Wang Gesinotsyour PhD program in Computer Science. I have known Mr. Wang since his sophomore year of college and have acted as his thesis advisor and mentor. In my experience?he is a gifted and diligent student?and an admirably hard worker.
Wang is an impressive student because he has been forced to overcome the significant challenge of a serious illness during his freshman year. When I first met Wang in my Discrete Math class?he did not appear to be anything special to me. While his exam scores were good，they were not as high as I would now expect of him. What I didn't know then was that due to his illness，Wang was attempting to take all of the difficult early mathematics courses at one time，including Discrete Mathematics，Advanced Mathematics，Linear Algebra，and Possibilities. While most students found preparing for just one set of these exams difficult，Wang was overwhelmed by four of them. But in the end，he achieved an impressive score on the final exam，which made me conscious of his unusual determination he demonstrates when confronting difficult challenges.
Mr. Wang and I have often talked about a variety of mathematics and computer science concepts and problems. During these discussions，I always found him to be delightfully intelligent. Not only does he quickly understand the concepts and problems presented to him，he is able to analyze these problems and present solutions. But perhaps most important is that Wang's thinking is intensely rigorous. When looking at any question，he carefully scrutinizes it and if he finds any uncertain issues，he clears them up immediately. I believe this kind of thought is essential to become an excellent computer programmer.
Serving as his thesis advisor，I had a first-hand opportunity to observe the way in which Wang's mind works. In his senor thesis，Mr. Wang mainly discussed two challenging questions in regards to″ANN″. In our books in China，knowledge of ANN and its uses are very rare. Few people in China have studied this topic and consequently，the materials that are available on ANN are limited. Working on this difficult project，not only did Mr. Wang rise to the challenge，but he went above and beyond the call of duty to analyze his secondary sources and test them for accuracy in practice. In this way?he found mistakes in the book that we use. His diligence and hard work made me extremely proud of him. Mr. Wang is an intelligent，motivated，and industrious individual. Teaching and advising him has been a delightful pleasure. I know that if given the chance to study abroad in America，he will arm himself to become a great programmer he dreams of being. He has the intelligence and background to achieve these goals – now all he needs is the opportunity. I ask that you look upon his application favorably and grant him a chance to study in your university.

1. 詳實的個人材料夾
教授要寫好一封推薦信，需要你提供詳實的個人材料。即使在一所很小的大學(xué)里，每個教授一學(xué)期也要教許多學(xué)生。如果教授從你那僅僅得到是成績單，那么在推薦信中他只能提到你這幾年的學(xué)習(xí)成績。如果你希望得到的是一封優(yōu)秀的推薦信，那么你就需要整理出自己的個人材料，準(zhǔn)備一個詳盡的文件夾，并清楚的標(biāo)明你的全名。你的個人材料文件夾需要包括以下材料：
1)成績單(如果GPA在3.0至4.0之間，當(dāng)然不錯。)
2)簡歷。你的簡歷應(yīng)突出你所參與的義工，和你選修的與申請的大學(xué)有關(guān)的課程。這樣，你的教授便會較全面的了解你。如果這些他們都知道，那就不妨再提醒他們一次。
3)與之相關(guān)的表格等等，你都需要把他們一并放入相應(yīng)的貼好郵票的信封內(nèi)。
4)可能的話，最好附上官方的成績單。
5)個人陳述和學(xué)業(yè)目標(biāo)(半頁紙)。聽起來有點老套，但是仔細想想，教授們更喜歡有遠大志向的學(xué)生。也就是說，一個學(xué)生如果沒有明確的方向，會給你的教授留下不太好的印象。如果沒有具體的實施步驟，也許你的教授會認為你還沒有為將來的學(xué)習(xí)作好準(zhǔn)備。
2. 提前預(yù)約見面時間
預(yù)約見面的最佳時間是在信發(fā)出前的兩周，與你的教授預(yù)約依次簡短會面，談?wù)撘幌峦扑]信的事情。記得一定要提前5分鐘到達，并且著裝要整潔。不必穿正裝，但是一定要讓別人看起來很舒服。從你的著裝表明了你要談較正式的問題。
同時，為你這次談話作好充分準(zhǔn)備。比方說怎樣談?wù)撃銓淼挠媱?哪些是你學(xué)術(shù)上或者個人的擅長;哪些可以幫你實現(xiàn)你的目標(biāo);哪些又是有可能阻擋你實現(xiàn)目標(biāo)的障礙;如果遇到障礙，你有哪些計劃來克服困難; 等等�？傊�，要把這次會談當(dāng)作一次面試。讓教授了解你為自己設(shè)置的目標(biāo)，你的個人計劃，當(dāng)然不必談你為達到目標(biāo)已經(jīng)取得了多大的成功。
最后，切記一定要避免在課上或者課后來討論你的推薦信。無論如何，不能在信發(fā)出之前一天，把材料塞到教授手中。 要知道你很忙，你的教授更忙。急匆匆寫出來的推薦信，效果一定不會太好。
3. 作好調(diào)研工作
一定要提前研究你所申請的學(xué)校。這樣不僅會有利于你的應(yīng)試申請，而且也向你的教授表明了你對那所大學(xué)是認真的。你想就讀的大學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)氛圍如何?學(xué)校的競爭程度、屬于傳統(tǒng)型，還是創(chuàng)新型?學(xué)者們喜歡那些知道應(yīng)該談?wù)撌裁吹娜恕?/p>
4. 征求建議
征求導(dǎo)師對于你學(xué)業(yè)的建議，這樣你會把你們的關(guān)系拉近距離。大多數(shù)導(dǎo)師喜歡談?wù)撍麄冏约侯I(lǐng)域的事情。事實上，他們很難發(fā)現(xiàn)人們是否真的對他們的學(xué)術(shù)領(lǐng)域感興趣。舉個例子，你對英國文學(xué)非常感興趣，這將會使一些英語教授感到高興。另外，如果你真的對某教授的課程感興趣，那一定要告訴他，告訴他你是如何被他的課程所吸引的。
