Thoughts such as "What if I don't get any job offers?", "What if I don't get the job I want?" or "Will I accept a position that isn't right for me?" can cause considerable upset.
Here are a few notes and pointers on how to prepare for interviews and determine if this job is the right one for you.
1. The key to reducing your anxiety is in being well-prepared for the interview. The first step towards a successful job interview is self-assessment You need to decide for yourself what kind of position you want. Since self-knowledge is the foundation of all decisions, a close scrutiny of your priorities, interests, short and long-term goals is necessary before any interview.
Remember: if you're unsure of whether or not you want the position you're interviewing for, it will probably show. If you don't have a reasonably clear focus, this is the time to do some hard thinking about what kind of position you want.(確定你要應(yīng)聘的職位)
2. The second step in preparation for your interviews is to research the companies you'll be interviewing with.(對求職公司充分了解) You should know as much about the company and the position as you possibly can. As you do your research, look for points where your interests, capabilities, goals, and personality match the company's needs or whatever needs you think they might have.
3. Every interviewer, whether directly or indirectly, will expect you to be able to answer questions like: (準(zhǔn)備好常見問題)Why do you want a position in this company? What can you do for my company? There are a few of the more popular interview questions. Take some time to think about the answers, and you'll be much more prepared to make a great impression. At a job interview, your employers will probably ask the following:
·What jobs have you liked the most? The least?
·Can you tell me about your present job?
·What do you expect to be doing five years from now?
·Why do you want to work for our company?
·What are your strengths? Your weaknesses?
·What do you know about our company?
·Can you give me a reason to hire you?
·What was your best subject in school? Your worst?
·What makes you qualified for this job?
·Can you tell me about the best day you've ever spent on a job? Your worst?
·How do you define success?
·Are you able to travel? Relocate?
·Can you tell me about your skills?
·Are you able to use a computer?
·Can you describe your ideal supervisor?
·Why did you apply for this job?
·How do you use this specific computer application to solve a job-related program?
·Do you have any samples of your work?(準(zhǔn)備好你得意的工作成果,并且隨身攜帶,在合適的時候拿出來給面試官看,可以收到意想不到的效果。)
4. And you're supposed to dress properly.(著裝得體) A suit, dress shirt and tie are usually required for men. Women should wear either a suit or a dress with a complementary jacket (外套). They are ALWAYS acceptable.
Those men with more limited wardrobes should wear a nice sports coat with coordinated slacks (搭配得當(dāng)?shù)男蓍e褲) and shirt. Women should wear a nice jacket with coordinated skirt or slacks. You should always avoid wearing sneakers (運動鞋) to interviews.
If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.
璫ome from everything else、put…first、 play a role in…
It’s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor… It’s the answer that led those who’ve been told for so long by so many to be cynical and fearful and doubtful about what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.(這是美國人共同說出的答案,無論老還是少,富還是窮,長久以來,很多人一再被告知,要對我們所能取得的成績極盡譏諷、擔(dān)憂和懷疑之能事,但這個答案讓這些人伸出手來把握歷史之弧,并再次使它朝向美好明天的希望延伸。)
這句話里young and old、rich and poor指代老少、窮富之人,cynical、 fearful, doubtful 是形容一些人的態(tài)度,譏諷,擔(dān)憂和懷疑? 如果前面一句你用youngsters and old people、rich people and who are poor,雖然意思沒變,但語言不工整也不精煉。
做個練習(xí):Bitterly、angrily、and with tears in her eyes、 Jane finally retired. Bitterly, angrily 和with tears in her eyes都是形容Jane退休時的心情,那么我們是否可以試著把它們?nèi)齻變成同樣的'語法結(jié)構(gòu)?Bitterly、angrily and tearfully、Jane finally retired.
And I would not be standing here without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last 16 years, the rock of my family, the love of my life, the nation’s next first lady, Michelle Obama.
I would not be standing here without是一個常用的致謝詞,表示沒有… Rice is indispensible to Chinese people. People in China cannot live one day without rice. His unyielding attitude on this subject was that since he had done it, so could everyone.
最后讓我們來看看他是怎樣形容摯愛,the rock of my family, the love of my life. 對于另一半的稱呼就像中文一樣,英文中也有很多,比如 light of my life、better half、perfect match, etc.

Life Is a Bag of Frozen Peas
24EN Editor's Note:The life you know can be scattered at any time. You will move on, but how fast you collect your peas depends on you. Will you keep scattering them around with a broom, or will you pick them up one-by-one and put your life back together?
A few weeks after my first wife, Georgia, was called to heaven, I was cooking dinner for my son and myself. For a vegetable, I decided on frozen peas. As I was cutting open the bag, it slipped from my hands and crashed to the floor. The peas, like marbles, rolled everywhere. I tried to use a broom, but with each swipe the peas rolled across the kitchen, bounced off the wall on the other side and rolled in another direction.
My mental state at the time was fragile. Losing a spouse is an unbearable pain. I got on my hands and knees and pulled them into a pile to dispose of. I was half laughing and half crying as I collected them. I could see the humor in what happened, but it doesn't take much for a person dealing with grief to break down.
For the next week, every time I was in the kitchen, I would find a pea that had escaped my first cleanup. In a corner, behind a table leg, in the frays at the end of a mat, or hidden under a heater, they kept turning up. Eight months later I pulled out the refrigerator to clean, and found a dozen or so petrified peas hidden underneath.
At the time I found those few remaining peas, I was in a new relationship with a wonderful woman I met in a widow/widower support group. After we married, I was reminded of those peas under the refrigerator. I realized my life had been like that bag of frozen peas. It shattered. My wife was gone. I was in a new city with a busy job and a son having trouble adjusting to his new surroundings and the loss of his mother. I was a wreck. I was a bag of spilled, frozen peas. My life had come apart and scattered.
When life gets you down; when everything you know comes apart; when you think you can never get through the tough times, remember, it is just a bag of scattered, frozen peas. The peas can be collected and life will move on. You will find all the peas. First the easy peas come together in a pile. You pick them up and start to move on. Later, you find the smaller, harder-to-find peas. When you pull all the peas together, life will be whole again.
The life you know can be scattered at any time. You will move on, but how fast you collect your peas depends on you. Will you keep scattering them around with a broom, or will you pick them up one-by-one and put your life back together?
How will you collect your peas?
Want more interviews? Job searches in tough times like now demand polished resumes more than ever. If you are attempting to write your own resume, these seven tips are important to follow:
1. Select the best format.
While most resumes are written in a history chronological format, often a better technique is to evenly balance between skill-set description, achievements, and employment.
2. Make certain your document is error free.
Since you are familiar with your own writing, you will "see" what you were thinking and not what is actually on the page. Do not rely on yourself to proofread your work and do not rely on spell-check. Find a friend who has strong grammar skills to check your work.
3. Find a balance between wordiness and lack of detail.
Employers need to see details about your work history and experience, but they don't need to know everything. The fact that you were den leader in your Cub Scout troop is irrelevant. Keep information germane to the goal of attaining an interview. Eliminate information that is not related and will not have a direct impact on winning the interview.
4. Do not use personal pronouns.
"I," "me," "my," "mine," and "our" should not be on a resume. Resumes are written in first person (implied). Example: For your prior job description, instead of writing: "I hired, trained and supervised a team of assistant managers and sales associates" you would instead state that you "Hired, trained and supervised a team of assistant managers and sales associates." Fragment sentences are perfectly acceptable on a resume and actually preferred.
5. Use numerical symbols for numbers.
While we are taught in school to spell out numbers less than ten, in resume writing, numerical symbols serve as "eye stops" and are a much better method. Instead of writing "Developed a dynamic team of eight consultants." it would be much more advantageous to state "Developed a dynamic team of 8 consultants."
6. Think "accomplishments" rather than "job duties."
What makes you stand out from the crowd? How did you come up with a way to do things better, more efficiently, or for less cost? What won honors for you? Information such as this is vital, will grab attention, and put your resume at the top of the list.
7. Keep it positive.
Reasons for leaving a job and setbacks do not have a place on a resume. Employers are seeking people who can contribute and have successfully performed in the past. Concentrate on communicating these issues and avoid any detracting information.
Remember, many first-time job interviews are conducted via telephone rather than in person. Make sure you are prepared for that telephone call when it arrives. And make sure you have a resume that will make the phone ring!
