　　When Henry ford decided to produce his famous v-8 motor, he chose to build an engine with the entire eight cylinders cast in one block, and instructed his engineers to produce a design in one for the engine. The design was placed on paper, but the engineers agreed, to a man, that it was simply impossible to cast an eight-cylinder engine-block in one piece.

　　Ford said, “Produce it anyway.”

　　“But,” they replied, “Its impossible!”

　　“Go ahead.” Ford commanded, “And stay on the job until you succeed, no matter how much time is required.”

　　The engineers went ahead. There was nothing else for them to do, if they were to remain on the ford staff. Six months passed and nothing happened. Another six months passed, and still nothing happened. The engineers tried every conceivable plan to carry out the orders, but the thing seemed out of the question:“impossible!”

　　At the end of the year ford checked with his engineers, and again they informed him they had found no way to carry out his orders.

　　“go right head,” said ford, “I want it, and Ill have it.”

　　They went ahead, and then, as if by a stroke of magic, the secret was discovered.

　　The ford determination had won once more!

　　This story may not be described with minute accuracy, but the sum and substance of it is correct. Deduce from it, you who wish to think and grow rich, the secret of the ford millions, if you can. Youll not have to look very far.

　　Henry ford was successful, because he understood and applied the principles of success. One of these is desire: knowing out the lines in which the secret of his stupendous achievement have been described. 　　過了一年，福特的工程師們都沒有進展，他們再次告知他，他們想不出有什么方法可以做到的指示。

　　“連續(xù)做，”福特說�！拔乙�八汽缸引擎，就肯定要做到!”

　　他們連續(xù)努力，然后仿佛如有神助似的，做法出籠了。

　　The hardworking blacksmith Jones used to work all day in his shop and so hard working was he that at times he would make the sparks fly from his hammer.

　　瓊斯是個特別勤勞的鐵匠，經(jīng)常一成天都在店里工作。他工作特別努力，他的鐵錘下經(jīng)常是火花飄舞。

　　The son of Mr. Smith, a rich neighbor, used to come to see the blacksmith everyday and for hours and hours he would enjoy himself watching how the tradesman worked.

　　Young man, why dont you try your hand to learn to make shoe tacks, even if it is only to pass the time? said the blacksmith. Who knows, one day, it may be of use to you.

　　The lazy boy began to see what he could do. But after a little practice he found that he was becoming very skilled and soon he was making some of the finest tacks.

　　Old Mr. Smith died and the son on account of the war lost all his goods. He had to leave home and was forced to take up residence in another country. It so happened that in this village there were numerous shoemakers who were spending a lot of money to buy tacks for their shoes and even at times when they paid high prices they were not always able to get what they wanted, because in that part of the country there was a high demand for soldiers shoes.

　　Our young Mr. Smith, who was finding it difficult to earn his daily bread, remembered that once upon a time he had learned the art of making tacks and had the sudden idea of making a bargain with the shoemakers. He told them that he would make the tacks if they would help to get him settled in his workshop. The shoemakers were only too glad of the offer. And after a while, Mr. Smith found that he was soon making the finest tacks in the village.

　　A young man asked Socrates the secret to success. Socrates told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning. They met. Socrates asked the young man to walk with him toward the river. When the water got up to their neck, Socrates took the young man by surprise and ducked him into the water. The boy struggled to get out but Socrates was strong and kept him there until the boy started turning blue. Socrates pulled his head out of the water and the first thing the young man did was to gasp and take a deep breath of air. Socrates asked, “What did you want the most when you were there?” The boy replied, “Air.” Socrates said, “That is the secret to success. When you want success as badly as you wanted the air, then you will get it. There is no other secret.”

　　A boy found an eagles egg and he put it in the nest of a prairie chicken. The eagle hatched and thought he was a chicken. He grew up doing what prairie chicken do-scratching at the dirt for food and flying short distances with a noisy fluttering of wings. It was a dreary life. Gradually the eagle grew older and bitter. One day he and his prairie chicken friend saw a beautiful bird soaring on the currents of air, high above the mountains.

　　Oh, I wish I could fly like that! said the eagle. The chicken replied, Dont give it another thought. Thats the mighty eagle, the king of all birds-you could never be like him! And the eagle didnt give it another thought. He went on cackling and complaining about life. He died thinking he was a prairie chicken. My friends, you too were born an eagle. The Creator intended you to be an eagle, so dont listen to the prairie chickens!

　　一個小男孩發(fā)覺了一只老鷹下的蛋，把它放進了一只山雞的窩里。鷹被孵出來了，但他以為自己是一只山雞。慢慢的他長大了，卻做著山雞所做的事---從泥土里查找食物，做短距離的飛行，翅膀還啪啪作響。生活特別沉悶，慢慢地鷹長大了，也越來越苦惱。有一天，他和他的山雞伴侶觀察一只漂亮的'鳥在天空飛翔，飛的比山還高。

　　“哦，我要能飛的那么高該多好啊!”鷹說。山雞回答說，“不要想了，那是兇狠無比的鷹，鳥中之王---你不行能像他一樣!”于是鷹放棄了那個念頭。他連續(xù)咯咯地叫，不停的埋怨生活。最終他死了，依舊認為自己是一只山雞。伴侶們，你們天生就是雄鷹。造物主有意把你造就成一只雄鷹，所以不要聽信山雞的話!
