1.Improve 提高
Promote: 促進(jìn)AC之間的貿(mào)易promote the trade between A and C; He was promoted to senior manager in this company.
Advance: our understanding of human genetics has considerably(非常的，可換做vastly) advanced.
Enhance: the publicity has enhanced his reputation.這次宣傳提高了他的名望
Reinforce: reinforce the interference of the autority and its ability of macroeconomic control 加強(qiáng)政府的干預(yù)和宏觀調(diào)控能力
2.Change 改變
Transform:多指改頭換面，完全改變，不能用于形容slight change。說到人口變化：the increasing population has transformed the landscape and structure of local industry structure.人口劇增改變了小鎮(zhèn)的景色以及當(dāng)?shù)氐墓I(yè)結(jié)構(gòu)
3.Emphasize 強(qiáng)調(diào)
Highlight：the report highlight the decline in the numbers of native(可以換作local) plants and insects.
highlight/emphase the significance/magnitude of… 強(qiáng)調(diào)…的重要性
Stress: He stresses the need for parents to listen to their children.
Accentuate: the crisis accentuates the gap between rich and poor.
Address: address the ponderance of manipulating the inosculation between… and… in the right perspective 強(qiáng)調(diào)正確處理…關(guān)系的重要性
(highlight and emphasize 的區(qū)別：highlight是告訴人們重點(diǎn)，因而能夠讓別人注意，類似于老師勾重點(diǎn);而emphasize則是使重點(diǎn)清晰，不管別人是否能注意得到。而stress則和emphasize差不多)
4.Develop培養(yǎng)
Cultivate: cultivate the ability of … ;培養(yǎng)情操;cultivate a more relaxed and positive way towards life.
Nurture: 養(yǎng)育，同樣可以指培養(yǎng)人才(talents)the sea nutures ample marine animals.
5.Break 破壞
Impair：impair ability; 主要是破壞能力。
Undermine這個(gè)詞也是指的是抽象意義上的破壞，有逐漸削弱之意，重點(diǎn)是循序漸進(jìn)的過程。Undermine one’s ability/confidence/authority/position/credibility
Jeopardize: 破壞的東西要上一定的等級(jí)才能配上此詞。比如Jeopardize the process of peace.破壞和平進(jìn)程
Devastate特指毀滅、蹂躪 the earthquake devastated the whole city.
6.Keep 保存
Preserve、Conserve 保護(hù)資源用的就是這個(gè)詞，不要用protect，protect用在保護(hù)具體的東西。
7.Deal with解決
Tackle: tackle the problem.
Resolve: resolve dispute爭論/conflict沖突/problem/issue/crisis危機(jī);來自拉丁語，比較正式。
8.Need 需要
Require：xxx requires courage and confidence.
Necessitate: 用法較復(fù)雜，慎用。
call for 很書面的高級(jí)用法，基本等同于need的官方辭令式用法。
