難句類型:復(fù)雜修飾、插入語、倒裝
解釋:第一個插入語however deficient 中的however在此不是轉(zhuǎn)折連詞,而是副詞,等于no matter how,但是因為后面出現(xiàn)了no matter how,而作者又追求語言表述的多樣性,所以作者在此使用了however deficient這樣較為少見的的語言。
盡管本句的插入語較多,第二個插入語很長,但是本句的真正難點在倒裝上。破折號后面的部分是主句賓語的同位語從句,此從句中固定搭配bring A to B被倒裝成了bring to BA。如果把這句話恢復(fù)成正常語序,則是it brings people who, no matter how legitimately they have earned their materiall rewards, often lask those other qualities that evoke affection or admiration to predominant positions in a society。很明顯,這樣的語序會顯得頭重腳輕。
