　　There was once a lonely girl who longed so much for love. One day while she was walking in the woods she found two starving songbirds. She took them home and put them in a small cage. She cared them with love and the birds grew strong. Every morning they greeted her with a wonderful song. The girl felt great love for the birds.

　　One day the girl left the door to the cage open. The larger and stronger of the two birds flew from the cage. The girl was so frightened that he would fly away. As he flew close, she grasped him wildly. Her heart felt glad at her success in capturing him. Suddenly she felt the bird go limp. She opened her hand and stared in horror at the dead bird. Her desperate love had killed him.

　　She noticed the other bird moving back and forth on the edge of the cage. She could feel his great need for freedom. He needed to soar into the clear, blue sky. She lifted him from the cage and tossed him softly into the air. The bird circled once, twice, three times.

　　The girl watched delightedly at the bird's enjoyment. Her heart was no longer concerned with her loss. She wanted the bird to be happy. Suddenly the bird flew closer and landed softly on her shoulder. It sang the sweetest melody that she had ever heard.

　　The fastest way to lose love is to hold on it too tight, the best way to keep love is to give it WINGS!

　　一天，女孩敞開了鳥籠的小門。那只較大較壯的鳥兒飛出了鳥籠。女孩非常害怕鳥兒會飛走。鳥兒飛近時，她死命將它抓住。她十分高興，終于又把它捉了回來。突然間，她感覺到鳥兒四肢無力。她張開手，驚恐地盯著手中的死鳥。她不顧一切的愛害死了鳥兒。

　　她注意到另一只鳥兒在籠邊撲閃著翅膀。她可以感覺到它對自由的無限向往。它渴望沖向明凈的藍天。她將它舉起，輕輕拋向空中。鳥兒盤旋了一圈，兩圈，三圈。

　　看到鳥兒快樂的樣子，女孩很高興。她的內(nèi)心不再計較自己的得失。她希望鳥兒幸福。突然，鳥兒飛近了，輕輕落在她的肩上，唱起了她從未聽過的最動人的歌。

　　失去愛的方法，最快莫過于將其牢牢地抓在手心；令愛長駐的方法，最好莫過于賦予它一雙翅膀——將愛放飛！

　　好的英語是讀出來的！

　　學(xué)習(xí)任何語言都需要大量閱讀。學(xué)習(xí)英語也需要大量閱讀。英語學(xué)得好的人，一般說來，都讀過相當數(shù)量的書；反之，也只有讀得比較多的人，才能真正學(xué)好英語。這個道理雖然簡單，但不少學(xué)習(xí)英語的人卻未必明白。時下，很多人都熱衷于做題目，以為這是學(xué)習(xí)英語的正確途徑。結(jié)果做的練習(xí)冊一本又一本，試題集一套又一套，做得頭昏眼花，興趣全無，英語水平卻并沒有實質(zhì)性提高。

　　學(xué)習(xí)英語的確要做適當練習(xí)。但我認為，歸根結(jié)底，好的英語是“讀”出來的，不是做練習(xí)“做”出來的�！白x”出來的英語是地道的、自然的，因為使用者依持的是“語感”；“做”出來的英語往往流于生硬，因為使用者是依賴“語法規(guī)則”硬“做”的。

　　一談到閱讀，人們便不由自主地想到“苦讀”。如果把這兩個字理解成讀書需要花功夫，倒也有理。但如果認為閱讀一定是很苦的，很少有歡樂，那就大錯特錯了。然而，目前的很多英語學(xué)習(xí)者都視英語閱讀為苦事，常常是不得已而為之。教師讓學(xué)生讀點英語材料，就像給孩童吃中藥，需要捏著鼻子硬灌下去。自然效果也不會好。

　　閱讀英語應(yīng)當輕松愉快，也可以輕松愉快。要做到這一點，閱讀材料的選擇是首要的。也就是說，要選擇生動、有趣、富有吸引力而又能啟發(fā)心智的材料（或書籍）。這類書具有以下幾個共同特點：一、可讀性很強，讓人立即產(chǎn)生閱讀的欲望，一旦上手，就放不下來了，不會感到學(xué)英語是沉重的負擔了。二、容易讀，不大會產(chǎn)生閱讀障礙。三、有助于擴大知識面，提高文化素養(yǎng)。

　　至于閱讀的方法，我主張一口氣讀下去，即便有個別單詞擋道，只要不影響整體內(nèi)容的理解，就不必停下來查詞典，更沒有必要見到好句子停下來就抄。因為那樣會打斷思路，影響閱讀速度，甚至扼殺閱讀的興趣。不要以為讀完一本書沒有記下某個詞語或某個句子就是一無所得。閱讀的主要目的在于語言吸收上的“潛移默化”，在于獲得語感。閱讀需要“量”，沒有大量的語言“輸入”，是難以學(xué)好英語的。而我們國內(nèi)的英語學(xué)習(xí)者恰恰語言輸入量太少，當然輸出量就更少。結(jié)果往往事倍功半。

　　好文共享---飄忽的浮云 Clouds

　　I've opened the curtain of my east window here above the computer, and I sit now in a holy theater before a sky-blue stage. A little cloud above the neighbor's trees resembles Jimmy Durante's nose for a while, then becomes amorphous as it slips on north. Other clouds follow, big and little and tiny on their march toward whereness. Wisps of them lead or droop because there must always be leading and drooping.

　　The trees seem to laugh at the clouds while yet reaching for them with swaying branches. Trees must think that they are real, rooted, somebody, and that perhaps the clouds are only tickled water which sometimes blocks their sun. But trees are clouds, too, of green leaves—clouds that only move a little. Trees grow and change and dissipate like their airborne cousins.

　　And what am I but a cloud of thoughts and feelings and aspirations? Don't I put out tentative mists here and there? Don't I occasionally appear to other people as a ridiculous shape of thoughts without my intending to? Don't I drift toward the north when I feel the breezes of love and the warmth of compassion?

　　If clouds are beings, and beings are clouds, are we not all well advised to drift, to feel the wind tucking us in here and plucking us out there? Are we such rock-hard bodily lumps as we imagine?

　　Drift, let me. Sing to the sky, will I. One in many, are we. Let us breathe the breeze and find therein our roots in the spirit.

　　I close the curtain now, feeling broader, fresher. The act is over. Applause is sweeping through the trees.

　　拉開了房間東邊電腦上方的窗簾，感覺自己仿佛身處一個神圣的`劇場，天藍的舞臺展現(xiàn)在面前。有好一會兒，鄰居家樹叢上飄著一朵像杰米·杜蘭特那大鼻子形狀的云朵，但漸漸云朵就往北飄移，大鼻子也就散了狀。周圍的云，大的、小的、丁點兒的都隨之往不知什么地方飄走了。縷縷白云或前行，或散去，這最自然不過了。

　　樹梢隨風(fēng)輕擺，像往上攀附云朵，也像在嘲笑云朵。樹肯定在想自己才是實實在在、穩(wěn)穩(wěn)扎根的重量級人物，而云朵只不過是積聚的水珠，只會偶爾擋住太陽的光輝。其實樹也是一種云，是綠葉做的云，是不怎么動的云。樹會成長、變化、老去，就跟天空的浮云一樣。

　　我不也是一朵云嗎？一朵懷著種種想法、感受和抱負的云。我不是也到處作嘗試，制造一個個霧團嗎？我的那些異想天開不也常不經(jīng)意地在人面前變成了一團奇形怪狀的云嗎？在感受到愛的微風(fēng)和憐憫的溫暖時，我不也像一朵朝北暢快游走的浮云嗎？

　　若浮云如人，人亦如浮云，我們是否都應(yīng)該飄，感受風(fēng)的力量，讓我們一時扎根這里，一時又把我們拔起吹走？難道我們真的就如自己想像中的那樣穩(wěn)如磐石嗎？

　　飄吧，讓我！向天高歌，我要。人海里的過客，我們是。就讓我們一起呼吸微風(fēng)的氣息，在其中尋找我們精神的根。

　　合上窗簾，感覺心胸更開闊，頭腦更清晰。帷幕降下，樹叢間掌聲雷動。
