The chinese government attaches great importance to the development of bilateral economic and trade relations and appreciates the efforts made by the canadianchinese trade council, serving as a bridge linking the business communities of our two great nations. I commend all the members of the council for their efforts in promoting trade with china. Canada is a country with well developed industries and abundant resources while china has plentiful supply of labor force and potential of huge market. We hope to see canadian enterprises can make full use of their technicle and fianancial advantages and compete well in the chinese market.

Mr. Chairman, it is a great pleasure that I am here to attend this annual meeting. On the occasion of this opening ceremony, I would like to express my deep appreciation to the host for this opportunity to adress the topic of peace and development and pay my highest respect for all the reprasentatives present at the meeting.
這次會(huì)議為我們交換意見(jiàn)，消除誤解，達(dá)成共識(shí)提供了理想的場(chǎng)所。我愿借此機(jī)會(huì)就世紀(jì)之交建立一種世界政治與經(jīng)濟(jì)新格局，世界和平與發(fā)展的`前景以及聯(lián)合國(guó)的作用等問(wèn)題闡述我國(guó)政府的立場(chǎng)和觀點(diǎn)。
This meeting provides us with an ideal arena where we will exchange views, clear misunderstandings and reach common ground. I would like to take this opportunity to elaborate on the positions and views of my government on the issues concerning the establishment of a new international political and economic order at the turn of this century, the prospect of world peace and development and the role of the united nations.
外貿(mào)改革
我國(guó)政府強(qiáng)化了對(duì)外貿(mào)的控管，強(qiáng)化了商會(huì)這類中介機(jī)構(gòu)的服務(wù)與協(xié)調(diào)功能。我們希望繼續(xù)加強(qiáng)外貿(mào)體制的改革，使外貿(mào)逐漸走向競(jìng)爭(zhēng)，并使之受到諸如關(guān)稅，匯率和利率等法律以及經(jīng)濟(jì)手段的制約，所有這些都應(yīng)有助于加速中國(guó)外貿(mào)的國(guó)際化進(jìn)程，為我們宏觀經(jīng)貿(mào)局面的出現(xiàn)創(chuàng)造一個(gè)較好的環(huán)境。通過(guò)促進(jìn)商貿(mào)業(yè)制造業(yè)農(nóng)業(yè)技術(shù)產(chǎn)業(yè)和銀行之間的更為密切的'合作，我們能為國(guó)際市場(chǎng)提供更多更好的出口產(chǎn)品。
Our government has stronger control over foreign trade and strenthens the servive and coordinations of such intermediate organizations as chambers of commerce. We hope to continue to strengthen the reform in our foreign trade system in order to gradually open foreign trade to competition and to get it under both legal and economic control such as tariffs, foreign exchanges and interest rates. All these should help speed up the internationalization of china’s foreign trade and create a better environment for bringing about our macro economics and trade. By promoting a closer cooperation among business and trade communities, manufacturing industries, agriculture, technology industries ans banks, we will be able to produce more and better export commodities for the international market.
處在我們這樣的情況，我們自然會(huì)成為一個(gè)大市場(chǎng)。為了發(fā)展我們的經(jīng)濟(jì)，提高我國(guó)人民的生活水平，我們需要進(jìn)口先進(jìn)的外國(guó)技術(shù)和產(chǎn)品。自從我們對(duì)外開(kāi)放那時(shí)起，作為一個(gè)市場(chǎng)我們便開(kāi)始吸引世界的注意。20年前，與中國(guó)有貿(mào)易關(guān)系的國(guó)家和地區(qū)還不到100個(gè)�，F(xiàn)在已有250個(gè)國(guó)家和地區(qū)與中國(guó)建立了貿(mào)易關(guān)系。其中有半數(shù)直接投資于中外合資企業(yè)。
Given our situation, we can help build a large market. To develop our economy and to improve the life of our people, we need to import advanced foreigh technology and products. We began to attract greater world’s attention as a market when we opened oyr door to the outside world. Twenty years ago there were no more than 100 countries and regions that had trade relations with china. Now the number has reached closely to 250, half of which have direct investment in sino-foreign joint ventures.
