歷史的道路，不會是坦平的，有時走到艱難險阻的境界。這是全靠雄健的精神才能沖過去的(1)。
The course of history is never smooth. It is sometimes beset with difficulties and obstacles and nothing short of a heroic spirit can help surmount them.
1、the course of，course在文學以及非文學翻譯中都是非常常見的表示道路，進程的詞匯，政府工作報告等政經類文章也�？吹健�
2、 平坦的=smooth ,flat, plain
3、 “走到”這個詞的處理，體現文學翻譯的一個特點——并不需要字字對應，beset 也是一個重點詞匯，常見意思為“困擾，使苦惱”，用法為beset (sb)with sth,注意這個詞的過去式和過去分詞都是beset,而現在分詞形式是besetting
4、 艱難險阻difficulties and obstacles,還是不要一個字一個字地去摳，重要的是達意
5、 Nothing short of =only ,文學翻譯中的only經常用nothing more than等詞組代替，merely都很少用~~這樣的詞組讀起來更有文學的意味在里面
一條浩浩蕩蕩的長江大河，有時流到很寬闊的境界(2)，平原無際，一瀉萬里(3)。
A mighty long river sometimes flows through a broad section with plains lying boundless on either side, its waters rolling on non-stop for thousands upon thousands of miles.
1、mighty=(形)強有力的，強大的，巨大的，雄偉的
(副)非常，很
(名)強有力的人，這又是一個高級詞匯啊，所謂高級詞匯，就是用起來會讓你顯得很高級的詞匯
2、境界此處譯為section(意思為地段，地區(qū))，并沒有用realm體現大師對于詞匯的把握，精準且到位
3、“平原無際，一瀉萬里”在句中處理為狀語，“一瀉萬里”譯為 rolling on non-stop for thousands upon thousands(成千上萬，千千萬萬，無數) of miles，但也可譯為 rolling on vigorously for tens of thousands of miles或rolling on for thousands of miles at a stretch(連續(xù)地，不停頓地，一口氣地)。
有時流到很逼狹的境界，兩岸叢山迭嶺，絕壁斷崖，江河流于期間，回環(huán)曲折，極其險峻(4)。民族生命的進展，其經歷亦復如是。
Sometimes it comes up against a narrow section flanked by high mountains and steep cliffs, winding through a course with many a perilous twist and turn. A nation, in the course of its development, fares likewise.
1、come up against表(突然或意外)碰到(困難，反對)，又體現了大師用詞的慎重和精準，section上句已做分析
2、 翻譯“兩岸叢山迭嶺，絕壁斷崖”時，首先要理解句子最本質的意思，其實就是“河流流到了很狹窄的地段，這個地段兩岸有高山和陡崖”，用flank(動詞意為“位于。。。的兩側”)作后置定語修飾section，真的很絕~
3、 Wind作動詞有蜿蜒，曲折前進的意思，常與through, along連用，表沿著…曲折前進 ，)“回環(huán)曲折，極其險峻”譯為winding through a course with many a perilous twist and turn，其中twist and turn來自成語twists and turns。此句亦可譯為following a dangerous tortuous course。

人類在歷史上的生活正如旅行一樣。旅途上的征人(5)所經過的地方，有時是坦蕩平原，有時是崎嶇險路(6)。
The historical course of man’s life is just like a journey. A traveler on a long journey passes through now a broad, level plain, now a rugged, hazardous road.
1，“征人”即“遠行之人”，故譯“旅途上的征人”為a traveler on a long journey。
2，“有時……，有時……”譯為now……now……(=sometimes……and
sometimes……)
3，坦蕩平原，崎嶇險路= a broad, level plain, a rugged, hazardous road.
志于旅途的人，走到平坦的地方，因是高高興興地向前走，走到崎嶇的境界，俞是奇趣橫生，覺得在此奇絕壯絕的境界，俞能感到一種冒險的美趣。
While a determined traveler cheerfully continues his journey upon reaching a safe and smooth place, he finds it still more fascinating to come to a rugged place, the enormously magnificent spectacle of which, he feels, is better able to generate in him a wonderful sensation of adventure.

2、while在此表微弱的讓步，做漢譯英時，增譯關聯詞也是非常重要的

4、 “感到一種冒險的美趣”意即“一種敢于冒險的美妙感覺”，原譯為a wonderful
Sensation of adventure。使某人產生(感覺)generate in sb a feeling(sensation) of ,比如葉圣陶的《我坐了木船》中“叫你不愿領教”就譯為“generate in me a feeling of repulsion”。
5、 “奇趣橫生”意即“極度吸引人”，故譯為fascinating。
6、“奇絕壯絕”意即“無限壯觀”，故譯為the enormously magnificent spectacle。
中華民族現在所逢的史路，是一段崎嶇險阻的道路。在這段道路上，實在亦有一種奇絕壯絕的境至，使我們經過此段道路的人，感得一種壯美的趣味，是非有雄健的精神的，不能夠感覺到的。
The Chinese nation is now confronted with a rugged and dangerous section of its historical course. Nevertheless, there is also in this section a spectacle of enormous magnificence that inspires in us passers-by a delightful sensation of splendor. And this delightful sensation, however, can only be shared by those with a heroic spirit.
1、 be confronted with=be faced with,表“面臨”，常用詞組，有時政經類的文章中出現“面臨…挑戰(zhàn)”也常用be challenged by
2、 section和 course，前面已經說了很多
3、 nevertheless 增譯的關聯詞，一般來說增減詞有三個目的“使行文明確，表強調，以及為了表達生動”
4、 “使…感到”=inspire in sb,是時候放棄make了童鞋們~
5、 “是非有。。。”=“只有。。。”這句話在翻譯時也是要理解其意思的，此處的only不能用別的替換哦
6、 “奇絕壯絕”意為“無限壯觀”，譯為“the enormously magnificent spectacle”
我們的揚子江、黃河，可以代表我們的民族精神，揚子江及黃河遇見沙漠、遇見山峽都是浩浩蕩蕩的往前流過去，以成其濁流滾滾，一瀉萬里的魄勢(10)。
The Yangtse River and the Yellow River are both symbolic of our national spirit the two mighty rivers negotiate deserts and gorges until their turbid torrents surge forward with irresistible force.

8、 “遇見沙漠，遇見山峽都是浩浩蕩蕩的往前流過去，以成其濁流滾滾，一瀉萬里的魄勢”譯為negotiate deserts and gorges until their turbid torrents surge forward with irresistible force, 其中動詞to negotiate 的意思是“順利通過”(to succeed in getting past something difficult)。又，注意until在這里的用法。它在此不作“直到……為止”解，而是so that finally(“以至于……”或“最后”)的意思。
9、 魄勢=force(力量，威力，影響力，勢力)，巴金的《<激流>總序》中的“排山之勢”也譯為了“terrific force”，同義的還有power和influence兩個小伙伴~
目前的艱難境界，那能阻抑我們民族生命的前進。我們應該拿出雄健的精神，高唱著進行的曲調，在這悲壯歌聲中，走過這崎嶇險阻的道路。要知在艱難的國運中建造國家，亦是人生最有趣味的事……。
The present national crisis can never obstruct the advance of our national life. Let us brace up our spirits and march through this rugged, dangerous road to the tune of our solemn, stirring songs. The greatest joy of life, mind you, is to build up our country during its most difficult days.

2、 “崎嶇險阻”分為兩部分譯，“危險的”一詞前文用了haphazard,這次用了dangerous,同義替換是顯示水平的一種手段哦
3、 to the tune of 意為“就著…的調子”，這個詞組的意思包含了“高唱著…曲調”和“在…聲中”兩個意思。這也是文學翻譯常用的手法
4、 “要知”譯為mind you，插入句中。成語mind you的意思是mind what I say 或 however,相當于漢語的“請注意”或“說真的”。
