養(yǎng)活人口重要還是保護環(huán)境重要?
Modern agriculture methods like the use of pesticides and artificial fertilizers are widely used around the world. Along with such brings forth negative effects. The most obvious and detrimental impact of modern agriculture methods is environmental degradation. Many people believe that the environmental risks should not be taken into consideration since many people are suffering from the lack of food. I certainly disagree with this.
To begin with, despite the fact that there are people who suffer from starvation, the reason is not because of the lack of food. As a matter of fact, tons of grains and corns are wasted every year. If the government and the general public really care about starving people, they should have enough ability and adequate materials to offer help. People suffer just because of bad management, worldwide corruption, and terrible indifference. So there is no need to destroy wilderness areas or use environmentally-damaging agricultural methods to increase productivity. The world nowadays has more food than we need. As long as corruption and bad management are eradicated, the world would see less people starving.
Besides, the statement asserts that providing food for a growing number of people is more urgent than the protection of environment. I find this statement totally unconvincing. People’s survival depends on the environment. More often than not, whenever the environment gets damaged, the deleterious effects are always irreversible. In other words, once the environment on which we depend on is disrupted, our lives are placed at risk. Modern agriculture, although it provides enough food, has contaminated the water and soil. When people eat crops grown with polluted water and soil, diseases will break out sooner or later. Genetically modified crops, although their negative effects are not obvious and not yet confirmed, should also be treated with great care, for it is reported that dogs, cats, and other pets become sick after ingesting GM food. If human beings are negatively affected by modern agriculture, untold dire consequences will arise. People will suffer from diseases and the government will shoulder considerable medical bills. Worse, the society may become unstable and inharmonious.
From the above discussion, I can draw the conclusion that there are other more effective methods to address starvation. No matter how much food we produce, as long as corruption and wasteful use exist, there will always be starving people. Besides, a healthy natural environment is a basic requirement of our survival. We cannot increase food production at the expense of our environment, lest we are bound to suffer for our inconsideration and recklessness.
環(huán)境污染
It is an undeniable fact that in recent years, environmental pollution, which becomes increasingly serious, has aroused the shared concern of countries around the world. A group of people hold the viewpoint that the government and big companies, rather than individuals, should be mainly responsible for the improvement of the environment. Nevertheless, I am inclined to believe that the government, large companies, as well as individuals should actively shoulder the responsibility of beautifying the environment. In this essay, I will demonstrate my point of view from the following aspects.
Firstly, it is the responsibility of the government, representative of the people, to spare no efforts to ameliorate the environment. To be more specific, the government should stage some relevant laws and regulations to severely punish factories which produce a great number of pollutants and those who litter or spit deliberately. Furthermore, large sums of money should be invested in the improvement of the environment, such as the treatment of waste water, trash recycling and so on.
In addition, large companies, on the other hand, should establish the self-consciousness to minimize the possibility of creating pollutants, which may not only be beneficial to the whole country but also to the companies themselves. As an illustration, some transnational corporations are striving to explore some newly-burgeonedindustries of high-tech content, high additional value and low energy consumption, taking the place of some high contaminative industries.
Last but not least, it is the top priority of individuals to improve their living space. There is a popular saying which goes like this: “It is everyone's obligation to protect the environment.” Most importantly, we should strengthen the consciousness of environmental protection, not only strictly being self-disciplined but also supervising people around. So to speak, it is unreasonable to claim that individuals have nothing to do with environmental protection.
From what has been discussed above, we can safely draw the conclusion that the government, big companies and individuals should make their due contribution to salvage the deteriorating environment.
工作比生活環(huán)境更影響你的幸福感?
For a truly peaceful existence, a person needs both a comfortable and satisfying career, as well as a happy living environment. However, one’s living environment is probably more important for contentment than one’s job, because people spend far more time at home than they do at word, and it is easier to change jobs than living environments.
One way of judging the impact a certain factor has on our lives is by looking at how much time we spend exposed to it. In this sense, there’s no contest between the career and living environment: even the hardest-working employees still spend the majority of their time at home.Even if problems occur on the job, most people try of put those problems aside when they get to their house or apartment. People eat, sleep, bond with friends and family, and relax in their homes. My mother sometimes works as many as sixty hours per week, but still gets to relax when she gets home each night. Despite working so many hours, she still spends the majority of her time in her own house.Since we experience the majority of our happy time at home, it is obvious that living environment affects us more than our job.
Another reason living environment is more crucial to happiness than career is that it is much more difficult to change our home environment than it is a job. Most people only change apartments or house at most once a year, due to lease agreements and mortgages. However, changing jobs or companies is much easier, and more common. Changing living situations requires more planning and commitment. When I had to transfer to a new city for my career, it was much harder to deal with my living situation than to get settled into a new position at work.Due to relative difficulty associated with changing one’s home environment as opposed to changing one’s job, it should be abundantly clear just how important said home environment is to our overall happiness.
Home is our comfort zone, the place where we unwind and relax. Home life affects our happiness more than career. After all, because of the amount of time spent at home as well as the difficulty of changing homes, the place we choose to live is often the very cornerstone of our entire lives.
