“睡”和“不睡”的表達(dá)(圖)
我們都知道sleep是“睡覺(jué)”的意思，bed是“床”，可有的時(shí)候，sleep卻不一定是“睡覺(jué)”，而“床”也不一定就用bed來(lái)表示。有點(diǎn)被我說(shuō)暈了吧，看看下面幾個(gè)短語(yǔ)你就明白了。
1. sleep on something
We asked Judy if she would join our club and she answered that she would sleep on it.
我們問(wèn)朱迪要不要參加我們的俱樂(lè)部，她說(shuō)她要考慮一下再答復(fù)。
其實(shí)sleep on something是“推遲做出決定”的意思，一件事情決定不下來(lái)，先把它放下，美美地睡上一覺(jué)再說(shuō)，說(shuō)不定到時(shí)候就有了好主意了呢。再如：
We will have to sleep on your invitation until we know whether we will be free Monday night.這個(gè)意思很明顯了吧，就是“我們先看看星期一晚上有沒(méi)有空，到時(shí)再考慮能否赴你的約。”
2. hit the sack
Hit the sack從字面上看就是“捅一個(gè)口袋”，日常表達(dá)中的意思卻是“我要去睡覺(jué)了”。Sack在這里是指床，hit是去床上睡覺(jué)的意思。但是，只有hit the sack可以表示“去睡覺(jué)”的意思，其它的，比如說(shuō)，我要坐下，就不能說(shuō) to hit the chair；此外，to hit the sack只能指結(jié)束一天工作和學(xué)習(xí)后晚上去睡覺(jué)，午睡也不能用這個(gè)短語(yǔ)來(lái)表達(dá)。來(lái)源：考試大

路易斯太累了，所以吃過(guò)晚飯就早早上床睡覺(jué)了。
3. to pull an all-nighter
To pull an all-nighter就是我們平常所說(shuō)的.“開(kāi)夜車(chē)” ，Pull在這里指讓自己受到某種煎熬。因此，這個(gè)短語(yǔ)更準(zhǔn)確的意思，就是迫使自己整夜念書(shū)。
I have to pull an all-nighter to get this project done.
我得熬夜把這個(gè)項(xiàng)目做完。
4. toss and turn
Toss and turn就是“輾轉(zhuǎn)反側(cè)”的意思。
例如《識(shí)骨尋蹤》中的一句對(duì)白：
Booth: Yeah. I’ll go home tonight and I’ll lie in bed and I’ll toss and I’ll turn and I’ll beat myself up. And, uh, I’ll question everything.
Booth: 是的，我今天晚上要回家，我會(huì)躺在床上輾轉(zhuǎn)反側(cè)，使勁折騰自己。我會(huì)質(zhì)疑一切。
