Female jobseekers shy about salary negotiation
Mike Barnard, 29 August 2008
Female job seekers don’t push for the salaries they might deserve like their male counterparts, it has been claimed.
Onrec reports The British Association of Women Entrepreneurs (BAWE) has stated women are getting paid less than men due to tradition, but they don’t do themselves any favours when negotiating their pay.
The professional organisation says females are "shyer" and "less agressive" about their salaries.
However, although the BAWE states it will take a “long time” before women's pay is the same as men's, a recent snapshot poll by Perriam and Everett recently 98 percent of businesses claim their best performers are an even mix of men and women.
Figures compiled by the Fawcett Society also found Britain's employees work the longest hours of all those in developed nations, with men working longer days than women on average.
